March of Dimes Maui Board President Lynn Araki-Regan today announced that the general public is invited to a "Wave of Light" candle lighting ceremony in recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. on the lawn fronting the County of Maui Kalana O Maui building, 200 S. High Street, Wailuku. Participants are asked to be in attendance by 6:45 p.m.
Event chair Lauren Wilson said, "The Wave of Light is a way for all those who have been touched by pregnancy or infant loss to remember and honor their loved ones. Ceremonies are held at 7 p.m. on October 15th around the world to create a continuous wave of light."
Wilson was inspired to chair this event after her daughter, Akeelah Nadia, passed away in June. She and husband Lance hope that the event will raise awareness of pregnancy and infant loss and provide comfort to families touched by loss.
